National Conference 2016 Developments

Book Conference Here

Dear Colleagues,

Welcome back and Happy New Year to you all.

By now you will all have received your conference packs and booking details.

2016 Conference hosted by the Tipperary Branch under the capable Leadership of Niall Murphy promises to be exceptional in every way possible.

There are only 23 days left for members to the closing date which is 29th January to avail of our “Early bird discounted rate of 120eu”

For our New members please note that the conference is generally supported financially by most schools as it is providing valuable CPD for all attendees. The Department of Education is also fully supportive and sponsors this CPD in partnership with the IGC.

There have been a lot of developments in relation to the conference. The key components of the conference programme are as follows:
•    The Tipperary born author, Donal Ryan will be delivering the keynote on Friday.  Donal is also the writer in residence at UL.
•    The Tipperary Branch, Organising Committee have put together a fantastic range of workshops for delegates.  A total of 24 workshops will be available.
•    Colm O Gorman, Amnesty International, will be our keynote speaker on Saturday morning  at the plenary session
•    An exciting education panel, with the education spokespersons from each political party, has been arranged for Saturday.  This is very timely in the run up to the next general election which fingers crossed will not take place until the following weeks. The session will be expertly chaired by Katherine Donnelly, Education Editor for the Irish Independent. Never was there a better opportunity for the IGC to get political support!!!!!

There is a great sense of anticipation in relation to the conference. The IGC has been through very difficult times, the tide is turning and admittedly we still have serious work to do and much to celebrate.

The IGC is 40 years in existence in 2016. The partial restoration of Guidance Counselling was announced by the Minister in budget 2016. This is the start of the process and our vision for full restoration of Guidance Counselling in all educational Settings is taking shape.

Please join us for what will be an excellent, enjoyable and uplifting National Conference.

Le gach dea-ghuí,

Betty Mc Laughlin.
