I am delighted to announce that the Teacher Education Section of the Dept. of Education and Science has indicated that the Guidance Counsellors national in-service day on Friday 5th. March 2010 has been approved for the purposes of paid supervision additional to substitution allocation to schools.
Substitution will only be paid for class based timetabled periods on Friday 5th.March as notified to the DES in schools 2009 October returns.
Guidance Counsellors are requested to indicate on their booking form, their total time-tabled class contact hours for Friday 5th.March for which their schools are eligible to claim substitution cover from DES.

UCAS extends January 15 Deadline
12 January 2010

Due to the current severe weather conditions affecting the majority of the UK, UCAS has decided to extend its January deadline for applications for higher education courses by seven days.

Schools, colleges and applicants who are able to, should still submit their applications by 15 January. For those who have been affected by closures and the bad weather, a later deadline of 22 January is available.

For advice on making an application please go to the Applying section of www.ucas.com.

The Institute of Guidance Counsellors established in 1968, is the professional body representing over 1200 practitioners in second level schools, third level colleges, adult guidance services, private practice and in other settings.

On behalf of it's members and their clients the Institute has a liason and advocacy role with government departments, management and trade union organisations, national parent bodies, higher and further education institutions, employment and training agencies.
